How to install Kodi 17.6 Krypton Update

Kodi is one of the best known multimedia content playback software, making it easy to organize.

The latest version of Kodi is 17.6, also called Krypton. This new version brought a new look and several features were also improved.

Kodi is available for Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, Raspberry Pi and iOS and with this guide you will learn how to install it on any of these systems, or simply upgrade the version you already have.

The first step is to go to the Kodi download page . Here you can choose where you want to install Kodi and download it if necessary.

Kodi Versions

Windows
For Windows there are two options: Either install through the Windows application store or download and install manually.

If it's through the app store it's pretty simple. Just click on the link to open the app store and then the button to get the app all done automatically.

If you already have a version installed or choose to do the manual installation choose the "Installer" option. When the download is complete you need to run the .exe file and follow the steps. If it is an upgrade, you must choose the same folder as the previous version for the files to be replaced.

Kodi is included in the Ubuntu repositories, so it is a fairly simple installation on Ubuntu or any other Ubuntu-based distribution.

To install on Mac you need to go to the download page and download the .dmg file. After the download is complete, double click on the file that will be mounted on the operating system. In the window that will appear you just have to drag the Kodi file to the applications folder.

Just like in Window if you want to upgrade an older version you have to choose the folder where the old version was installed.

Kodi Mac

Android
Kodi is available from the Google Play app store so you only have to access the app on your smartphone, tablet or Android TV. If you already have an older version installed, the update is done automatically.

Raspberry pi
Kodi software can be downloaded and installed on the operating system that comes with Raspberry Pi, although the latest version of Kodi is not yet available, which means that Kodi 17.6 Krypton cannot be installed yet.

However, there are several distros created for Raspberry Pi that use Kodi that you can use. For example, LibreELEC has released a beta version of its Kodi 17.6 Krypton-based software. You need to install LibreELEC (Krypton) v7.95.2 on an SD card and then insert it into Raspberry Pi and start distributing LibreELEC.

iOS
Installing Kodi on an iOS device requires jailbroken. If you meet this requirement and have iOS 6.0 or higher, you can download and install the app.
